The Impact Of Missing Teeth

While the loss of a tooth might seem like a cosmetic issue, it can have a significant impact on your overall health. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding teeth begin to shift in an attempt to fill the space. This can lead to misalignment of the teeth, which can make it difficult to chew and speak properly. Additionally, the teeth become much harder to clean. This leads to a cascade of problems that include an increased risk of losing additional teeth, developing gum disease, and suffering from other oral infections.

Other challenges associated with missing teeth may include the following:

  • Poor nutrition: Missing teeth can make it difficult to chew properly. This can lead to problems with digesting food, which can in turn cause malnutrition, weight loss, and other health problems.
  • Low self-esteem: The loss of teeth can have a significant impact on self-esteem and quality of life. Many people feel embarrassed or self-conscious about their appearance when they have missing teeth.
  • Poor school/work performance: The difficulties associated with missing teeth can also lead to problems at school or work. It may be difficult to speak properly, which can affect communication with others.
  • Depression: The social and psychological effects of tooth loss can lead to depression in some individuals.

Dentures That Make A Difference

At Ayden Family Dentistry, patients suffering from the effects of tooth loss can find relief with our quality, custom-crafted dentures. We work closely with each patient to ensure that their dentures fit comfortably and look natural. Our dentures are made from the highest quality materials and are designed to last for many years. At our office, we offer both full and partial dentures to fit the needs of each patient.

Full Dentures

A full denture is a prosthetic device that replaces all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They are supported by the gums and held in place by either suction or dental adhesive. When fitted properly, dentures can restore the function of your teeth and the appearance of your smile; in addition, the prosthetic may also help to support the skin and muscles of the face—preventing the appearance of sagging, wrinkles, and other age-related changes.

Partials

A partial denture is custom-designed to replace one or more missing teeth along the upper or lower jaw. The appliance features artificial teeth connected by a directory of a metal framework along a pink acrylic base. The partial is held in place by clasping onto neighboring teeth for support—giving it the stability it needs to function properly.
